It All Begins with a Single Step…of Faith

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong stepped off the Lunar Module Eagle and became the first human to set foot on the moon. He spoke these now-famous words: “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.”

What we don’t read in the history books or see in the archived press coverage is the hours, days, months, years, decades of preparation that went into that one, brief moment. The scads of scientists and engineers who stressed over every little detail of the mission. The years of flight instruction and physical conditioning each crew member endured. The hours of worrying and praying that family members and friends logged on behalf of the astronauts.

For every great moment, there are hundreds, possibly thousands, of moments leading up to  it.

I am so excited to introduce you to my friend Lindsay today. She and her family are on an incredible journey of faith that started with one small step.

Lindsay is one of those amazing people. You know the type…the more you get to know them, the more amazing they are. Yep, she’s one of those.

I recall one day, before I knew Lindsay well, we were together at a mom’s group with our then-little-ones. Lindsay was feeding her sweet girl some homemade goodness and casually mentioned how she made her own baby food and ground her own cereal. I glanced down at my daughter’s store-bought, over-processed snacks and thought to myself, I don’t think I can be friends with this woman. Little did I know what God had in store…

Since that time our families and our friendship have grown. We have laughed with, cried with, and prayed for each other. We have lamented the less-glamorous side of parenting and rejoiced together over home sales and purchases. We have bonded over our love for words, being married to IT guys, and Downton Abbey.

When I went through radiation treatment two years ago, Lindsay was faithful to load up her three girls (ages 5, 3 and 3 months!) every week to bring dinner for my family. She would watch my Little Man while I went for treatment and do whatever random household things needed to be done. She was a God-send (See what I mean? Amazing).

So when she told me last November that her family had decided to host an orphan from Eastern Europe for the holidays, I thought, Of course you have. You see, God is big enough to connect a family in Missouri to an orphan in Eastern Europe. And Lindsay is willing enough to let Him.

I am so happy to announce Lindsay’s new blog, Miracles Form, where she is sharing all that led up to that first step of faith and what has happened as a result. Won’t you stop in and hear Lindsay’s heart for orphan care? While you’re there, let her know what a fabulous job she is doing. And tell her Nancy says “Hi.”

And what about you? Is God stirring something in your heart? Do you need to take a step of faith? What “first step” can you take today?

  1. Heading over to Lindsay’s blog now. I love how God brings people into our lives to do life with everyday. These people give us our physical hugs, hear our laughter, pick us up when we are down, know by one look we are sad, and in an instance not think twice about taking in our kids. Thank you for sharing one of your in real life friends with us!

    1. Yes, Una…that is perfect faith. God asks us each to walk in faith differently. Obedience is taking the step to do what He is asking whatever that may be. Thanks for stopping by! I hope you do check out Lindsay’s blog…I’m sure you will be blessed!
