When I first found Christin Slade’s blog, I knew I would glean much from what she had to offer, both in writing and parenting. As a writer and mom, I am constantly looking for ways to balance these two great passions in my life. So when the opportunity arose to review her new e-book, Blog at Home Mom: Balancing Blogging and Motherhood (released today!), I jumped at it.
In 15+ years of writing and 5 years of blogging, I’ve read my fill of become-a-better-writer and grow-your-blog resources. I sincerely hoped Christin’s book would be different, and I was not disappointed.
At 45 pages, this quick read packs quite a punch of practical tips and ideas.
From setting goals, making priorities, and organizing your day to caring for the needs of yourself and your family, Christin gives practical insight into finding balance for a work-at-home mom.
Christin explains that embracing the call to write does not mean neglecting your role of motherhood. Neither does motherhood mean you have to sacrifice your call to write. In fact, when done well, the two can and will complement one another. In Christin’s words,
“Having the ability to live out what God has given me a deep desire for, really empowers me to be a better mom, wife, and all around woman.”
The key is finding balance in the two, and that’s exactly what Christin seeks to do. Through personal examples, she shares how to organize your time and discipline yourself so the two great passions of a writing mom’s life can live together in harmony.
While specific to blogging, the tools laid out in this book will easily apply to any working mom. Whether you’re a blogger, a photographer, or a Mary Kay representative, you will find something here for you.

Hey Nancy,
Leaving you a comment for your give away. I did comment on Christin’s website too and told here where I saw the book. Regardless if I win or not, I’ve been wanting to do a blog for a while and didn’t quite know how/where to start. So this should be a good help to me.
As far as my role as a working mom…boy is it tough. I have really struggled with trying to balance mom, work and spouse. I often have that nagging thought at the back of my mind did I do enough for the family today???? Since when I am working I am gone from the home about 11 hours a day. Now that we have 2 babies, I know my time at home will be even more sweet/stretched when I return to work.
I value my job and love what I do. I truly feel blessed to have be called into a field and followed that call. But at the same time the call to be a better wife and mom is there too. It’s a tough balancing act. Unfortunately finances play a big role too since I am the primary money maker.
I had been toying with the idea of a blog as a way for me to catch my family up on the activities of the girls and a way for me to capture the moments and special times that we have together as a family, as they are very sweet and too short!
Hi Mindy! I’m so glad you stopped by and entered the giveaway. Blogs are great fun, and a fantastic way to stay in touch with faraway family…that’s what my original blog was all about! If you have any questions about getting started, let me know. I hope you and the fam are doing well!
